WE ARE HIRING!

Job Description: Cheesemonger

About Pique-Nique:

Pique-Nique is Orange County's first pick-your-own cheese and charcuterie bar, tucked inside the historic Anaheim Packing House. Inspired by the French notion of a casual outdoor meal, the name captures a pick-and-mix of small delights and the simple joy of crafting a plate that is uniquely yours. We are a new kind of counter-service restaurant where every plate is made for exploration and every bite tells a story, with curated meats, cheeses, and wines drawn from years of travel and discernment and daring pairings meant to surprise and delight.

Since opening in April 2024, we have grown a close-knit team that takes real pride in the craft and celebrates the richness of life with a side of playfulness and a dash of whimsy. We invite you to join us in the art of good eating and help our guests create stories worth sharing over a plate of the finest cheeses and charcuterie.

Pay: $17.25 per hour + tips | Schedule: 2-3 shifts/week; nights, weekends, and holiday availability required

About the Role:

As a Cheesemonger, you provide exceptional service and share your expertise across our food and beverage offerings while crafting uniquely beautiful cheese and charcuterie boards, small plates, and boutique beverage pairings. This is a hands-on, guest-facing role with no supervisory responsibilities and clear opportunities for advancement as you grow with us.

Our Service Standard:

Cheesemongers deliver hospitality that exceeds our guests' expectations. That means more than a smile and a greeting. It shows up in attitude, respect, and flexibility: a genuine can-do spirit, care for the people around you, and the ability to adapt easily as the day changes. We take pride in continuously learning about artisanal food and wine, and we delight in sharing what we know.

What You'll Do:

  • Prepare food and beverage products for service, including cutting, weighing, packaging, and stocking cheese, meats, fresh produce, and wine.

  • Build visually appealing cheese and charcuterie boards, sandwiches, salads, small bites, and wine-based cocktails.

  • Share your knowledge of our artisanal products with guests and guide them through their selections.

  • Deliver prompt, accurate service so every order is ready in a timely manner.

  • Follow FIFO standards to keep our products fresh.

  • Execute opening and closing procedures.

  • Keep the counter and workspace clean and organized at all times.

  • Jump in wherever the team needs support.

What You'll Bring:

  • A genuine passion for food and hospitality.

  • Warm, collaborative communication and a knack for connecting with guests and teammates.

  • The ability to communicate effectively with customers and team members.

  • Comfort in a fast-paced environment and adaptability to changing demands.

  • Safe knife-handling skills.

  • Reliable availability for nights, weekends, and holidays.

  • Comfort with simple math (addition, subtraction, multiplication, and fractions, using a calculator).

Qualifications:

  • A demonstrated passion for food and hospitality.

  • At least 21 years of age.

  • Able to obtain a California Food Handler card within 30 days of hire and complete Responsible Beverage Service (RBS) certification within 60 days of hire.

Essential Physical Functions:

  • Able to stand and move for extended periods, with or without reasonable accommodation.

  • Able to lift up to 50 pounds, with or without reasonable accommodation.

What We Offer:

  • Employee discounts on food and wine.

  • A clear path for advancement as you grow with the team.

  • Flexible part-time scheduling.

  • Opportunity for formal wine education after six months of employment.

  • Bonuses for completing cheese education.

  • Matching 401K contributions.

  • A close-knit team that takes real pride in the craft.
